Last May, we spent a week in central Taiwan (Chiayi and Taichung) because T had company travel vouchers that were about to expire. We spent most of the time eating, chilling in the hotel, and working remotely!
I’ll be sharing the Chiayi leg of our trip in this post, and the Taichung part in a separate post.
On the first day, we drove to Chiayi and checked in at Tsun Huang Hotel. There was only one table in the room so we took turns using it — sometimes I would be on the bed and vice versa.
On our second day, I didn’t want to wake up too early for breakfast but T still went down and they kindly wrapped a breakfast box for me. Not in the photo is the big bowl of congee that came with this.
We left the hotel to look for a coffee shop. The first place we went to was too cramped and even if we got a table, we felt that it was too small. The owner also wanted to move us to bar stools and a round table because apparently, the tables were for a 4-person group. We decided to just leave.
Luckily, we found another coffee shop nearby called Forward Roasters. They had bigger tables and we were able to get work done while having good coffee and dessert.

For dinner, we bought takeaway from this eatery called 何首屋 that sells delicious spareribs soup. I don’t have any photos because we ate it in the car at the Costco parking lot. Hahaha! After eating, we went to Costco to buy some stuff.
The next day, we went to 老張麵店 for lunch. The servings were so much more than we had thought, which is why we ended up over-ordering and having leftovers that became our dinner.

We walked to Coffee with Me 身邊咖啡 which was nearby. I wasn’t sure if it was open but the door was ajar so I entered the shop. Turns out, they were supposed to be closed that day but the owner suddenly decided to open the shop and said that I was lucky that she had already arrived when I went in.
I ordered flat white and latte and we went back to our hotel to continue working.
Our last meal in Chiayi was at this cute little brunch place called 小盤子cafe. They cook & prepare the food on the spot so there’s a bit of a wait, but the food’s good so it’s worth it!
Yuuum! After brunch, we drove to Taichung and thus ending our short trip to Chiayi.
